Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

I love to cook. One of the delicacies that we love to serve up from time to time (and I did for Wendy and my birthday last week) is Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. It didn’t make it into our last cookbook, but I have the recipe here for you.

Bacon Grilled Shrimp

When we pamper ourselves with steak, we love this additional recipe as a side or an appetizer.

  • 1 lb bacon
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 onion, small
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 2 lbs large shrimp, thawed

Cut bacon ½ length and cook el dante. Set bacon grease aside.

Finely chop the onion and pour into a small mixing bowl. Measure leftover bacon grease and add remaining ½ cup with choice of oil. Pour over onions. Add cayenne pepper, sugar, salt, oregano and garlic powder. Mix shrimp and mix in a 1 gallon pressure closed bag. Zip it up and have one the kids mush it around for 5 minutes. Marinade in the refrigerator for one hour.

Wrap each piece of shrimp with a piece of bacon and poke with a toothpick. Lay out on plate and bring out to the grill. Over flame (preferably charcoal), place the bacon-wrapped shrimp. Cook until shrimp is white and shell is pink. Remove and serve.
